This is extremely informative!

This is an ARC review, and all opinions are my own.

I am a neurodiverse parent of 3 neurodiverse children. I have read lots of books, studied the subject of neurodiversity in college, and have been through countless evaluations and meetings about my children. This book was so thorough and well thought out. You receive information about different diagnoses, medications, tips, tricks and other useful information.

The ARC copy even included a workbook with tons of tips, journaling prompts and other gems that helped me explore new directions I can take with my children. This was so informative and I highly recommend it.

The practical examples

This book is excellent; the author documents her sources with great precision, allowing readers to delve deeper into any of the fields of study she references.

The term “expert” has come to define someone who limits their study to a very narrow area and tremendously restricted perspective. This is akin to seeking knowledge from a standpoint completely detached from reality.

However, the research and ideas that make up this magnificent book steer entirely clear of these pitfalls.

Thorough, clear, and genuinely useful

This is one of the most thorough and well-researched books I’ve come across on the subject. Dr. Perez Visus clearly has a deep understanding of how children’s learning, behaviour, and emotional wellbeing are all connected, and she explains it in a way that is easy to follow without ever feeling dumbed down.

What sets it apart is how practical it is. It doesn’t just explain what’s going on, it gives you concrete tools and strategies you can actually use. The three-part framework is logical and easy to apply, and the range of evidence-based approaches covered is impressive.

Highly recommend it to anyone working with or supporting children!

An absolute must-read for both parents and educators!

As a high school teacher who works daily with students diagnosed with ADHD, finding resources that go beyond surface-level behavioral advice can be challenging. This book is a true masterpiece and an incredibly useful tool.

Dr. Eva Pérez Visus bridges the gap between complex neuroscience and practical, everyday strategies perfectly. What I loved most about her approach is how she breaks down the underlying
mechanisms — such as the stress response, neurotransmitters, and executive functions—making it easy to understand why these children experience the world the way they do.

The structure of the book is exceptional. The first sections cover fundamental basics like diet, sleep, exercise, and emotional safety, which are absolutely critical. I especially appreciated the
comprehensive breakdown of different diagnoses (ADHD, ASD, anxiety) and the final Putting It All Together sections, which evaluate the quality of scientific evidence for various interventions. As an educator, having clear, evidence-based data is invaluable.

A Rigorous, Compassionate Guide Beyond Labels and Quick Fixes

This is one of the finest books I have read on whole-child approaches to supporting children who struggle with learning, behaviour, emotional regulation, or neurodivergent profiles. Although it is primarily written for parents, teachers, and caregivers of ADHD, autistic, anxious, dyslexic, or highly sensitive children, many of its insights are also deeply applicable to adults with late diagnoses who are trying to understand their own developmental journey.

What makes this book particularly valuable is its compassionate yet scientifically grounded perspective. It does not reduce children to labels or symptoms, but invites the reader to understand the underlying roots of their difficulties, from stress and trauma to sleep, nutrition, movement, emotional connection, and the learning environment. The proposals are clearly organised, critically presented according to the available evidence, and translated into practical, realistic steps that can be applied in everyday life.

I especially appreciated the systems-based approach: the idea that behaviour, emotions, learning, physical wellbeing, and family dynamics are all interconnected. Rather than offering quick fixes, the book provides a calm, thoughtful roadmap for building emotional intelligence, resilience, and more personalised support.

Thank you for such an excellent, rigorous, and genuinely helpful piece of work.

Testimonial

As a principal who has walked the challenging road of transforming a mainstream institution into a Full-Service School, reading Dr. Eva Derez Visus’s book, Navigating the Maze, felt less like reading an academic text and more like looking into a mirror of our own journey.

For any educator, "the maze" of inclusive education, balancing diverse learning needs, managing systemic constraints, and shifting deeply ingrained mindsets, can feel entirely overwhelming. Dr. Pérez Visus’s book captures this reality with profound empathy, but more importantly, it provides the exact compass schools need to find their way through.

What makes this book extraordinary, however, isn't just the text on the pages—it is the fact that our school has experienced the living, breathing version of this blueprint through. Dr. Pérez Visus’s direct, hands-on support.

I am looking forward to reading her new book, ‘Raising the whole child.”
